trying doing Whole30
I won’t spend a lot of time talking about what Whole30 is, as I’m sure you’ve heard of it if you ever get on the internet. In a nutshell, it’s cutting all things delicious out of your diet. When I say delicious, I mean sugary, bready, cakey, cheesy, milky. All those things. It’s getting back to the basics. Meat and Potatoes.
In our home, since we do eat healthyish, we try to avoid processed foods as much as possible. We limit sugar. Basically, we try not to buy crap. Because if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, if you don’t buy it, you won’t eat it.
BUT, do I limit my cheese and bread intake? Negative. Sure I buy organic raw cheese most of the time and whole grain breads. But those are also out on Whole30.
So, why have I decided to not just limit these delicious items, but remove them altogether for the month of April?
For me, it boils down to stomach issues. I have digestion issues that flair up every once in awhile. Perhaps it’s just stress and anxiety related, but what if it’s food related? I know that bread and dairy cause major issues for some people, and if I can figure out what causes my stomach issues so I know what to avoid or limit in the future, all the hard work will be worth it! Also, I am basically addicted to sugar, but as the nutritionist in charge of our group said to me, We all are addicted to sugar! Which is the sad truth. Sugar is snuck in every single place in our food. Ketchup, bacon, mayo. ALL HAVE SUGAR. I love sugar. But I’d love not to crave it constantly because saying no all the time is hard.
My daughter overheard Healthyish Hub and I talking about it and she ran in the room, her interest piqued.
“Where are you going, Mom?”
“Nowhere, Babe. Your daddy and I are doing a Whole30.”
“But where is it?”
“Here. In our home. It has to do with what we eat.”
“What does that mean?”
“It’s where you don’t eat bread or da”
“WHAT? I CAN’T EAT BREAD!?”
“No, you can eat bread, but mommy and daddy won’t. We also won’t eat cheese or”
“BUT I LOVE CHEESE!”
“Right, you and Sis can eat cheese. But Mommy and Daddy won’t. And we won’t eat any sugar or”
“NO SUGAR! THAT MEANS NO DESSERT! WHY WOULD YOU GO TO A PLACE LIKE THIS?!”
“Again, It’s not a place. It’ll be here in our house.”
“WE WON’T HAVE DESSERT IN OUR HOME?! I DON’T LIKE WHOLE30!”
“I know. But this is just for Mommy and Daddy. You can still have treats every once in awhile.”
“…You’ve got to be kidding me”
No Sis. No we are not kidding you.
But that is probably what my brain will be thinking after week 1.
If you are interested in joining the group that I am in or interested in reading more about it, check out the Whole30 website. I am actually more excited than anything about doing this. I do love meal planning and cooking, so this challenge will be fun. And also hard. But hopefully mainly fun and rewarding.???
So come along for the ride! If you don’t follow me on instagram yet, get on over there and follow me! I have never done stories before, but I will try to share my food and prepping. My video skills are top notch. You will see. 😛
